Chandigarh the city beautiful is so lucky to have most precious gift the sukhna lake.It is a man made lake which was created in 1958.The Lake was one of the greatest gift from Le Corbusier and P L Varma Chief Engineer.A three and half km long dam was built to create a reservoir of water, now known as Sukhna Lake.It is a paradise for tourists.We can see the nature at its best here.Usually people come here for morning and evening walk.The changing moods of the day reflects on the bank of the lake.There is a park for the children and a eating place too so people enjoy a lot here.
The lake is at its best in the morning when the sun rises up and the cool breeze flows,some people come for jogging and to savour the fresh air.Boating and rafting facilities are also available and this attracts the adventure seekers most.At one end of the Lake are the premises of Lake Club. The club management takes care to provide facilities for water sports and recreational activities.
Water sports become annual feature, different compititions are organised here.The Lake, which was the venue for the Asian Rowing Championships, has the longest channel for rowing and yachting events in Asia. It also has facilities for other water sports like water surfing, skiing and skulling.The beauty of lake is so that the photographes and painters try to capture the beauty of the setting sun,rising sun, and in the monsoon when the sky is heavily cloudy.The nature inspires them to do so.
Environment friendly people of Chandigarh take part in its disilting operation every year to keep their sukhna neat and clean.
