Chandigarh Festival of Gardens
As the festival’s 35th edition begins tomorrow, the Administration chose to keep its original name “to regain the lost charm of the city’s oldest and biggest garden festival”.
The Administration has also disallowed commercial stalls at the festival this time.
The three-day festival, to be inaugurated by UT Administrator Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues, is expected to attract around 2.5 lakh people.
In keeping with the tradition of dedicating a new garden every year on the first day of the festival, Rodrigues will inaugurate “Poinsettia & Ixora Garden” at Sector 11 tomorrow.
In addition to cultural programmes, the visitors would also get to see over 500 varieties of roses blooming at the garden. The varieties of the flower this year is almost a 100 more than last year.
Hoardings, announcing the start of the festival, have been put up at major parts of the Madhya Marg.
On the inaugural day, a folk dance competition will be held in the morning followed by “Vinod Sehgal Ghazal evening” in the evening.
Subhash Ghosh will present morning ragas on February 24, followed by the Rose Prince and Rose Princess competition. Photography contest and the rose quiz competition will also be organised on the same day. A Kumar Sanu Nite on Saturday and Hans Raj Hans Evening on Sunday would be the other high points of the festival.
Jan Marg would remain open for normal traffic movement, and only limited sponsored stalls would be put up at the Rose Garden and the Leisure Valley in Sector 11.
