he Chandigarh education department has decided to extend the summer vacation of all government and government-aided schools till 7th July on Friday. As the schools were to reopen on 1st July, however, keeping in mind the persisting hot weather in Chandigarh, the education department has extended the summer vacations for one week more. |

With an aim to reform the examination system and “de-traumatise the education”, the government is planning to make the Class 10 exams “optional”, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said Thursday.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd today condemned attacks on Indians studying in Australia as “senseless acts of violence” after the government in New Delhi raised concerns. “We deplore and condemn these attacks,” said Rudd, who discussed the issue by telephone last week with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Federation of Indian Students of Australia says attacks are increasing and held a rally in the city of Melbourne yesterday to protest. A student was left in a coma after he was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver last month. More |
