As the people residing in Chandigarh city need to worry about the disaster or any natural calamity as Chandigarh is not prepared to handle the disaster. Chandigarh comes under seismic zone IV as it is earthquake-prone areas.
For the population of more than 10.55 lakh people Chandigarh District Disaster Management Authority has only 24 trained home guard volunteers. Instead of this these volunteers even not have necessary equipment for any emergency situation.
As in recent incident 6 people died and 11 get injured and volunteers carried out people digging an basement with safety accessories like safety shoes, helmet and gloves. Even authority have only one van to deal emergency situation.
