The Panjab University professors ,lecturers and its affiliated colleges filled a bunch of writ petitions for granting them to work till 65 years. Justice Amol Rattan Singh denied all writ petitions and said that The Panjab University teaching staff will work till 60 years.
PU staff said that 90 percent of grant came from the Union of India. So the retirement age should be 65 years according to UGC regulations
HRD Ministry said that Panjab University is an inter state body corporate not a centrally funded institution. For enhancing the retirement age this decision is made to change the status of the university that it is an centrally funded institution. But state Punjab had refused to give its concurrence . So the Punjab and Haryana High court denied all petitions and announced that the retirement age is 60 years .
