The city will host first Chandigarh marathon Jan 31, an official said Wednesday expectating that the event will see many celebrities participating. “The marathon will be organised in three parts — five-kilometre, half-marathon and full 42-m marathon. Indian Government has allotted city Chandigarh Rs 2 crore under Vision-2022 to prepare human resources in hospitality sector before the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Information to this effect was shared by CITCO general manager (tourism), AK Malhotra that the granted fund will be utilized to raise manpower in alternate institutes, affiliated with All India Colleges and Technical Institutes, would offer an excellent opportunity to unskilled youngsters to make a vocation in the sector. |

Abhinav Bindra from Chandigarh fired himself into Indian sporting history by ending his country’s 108-year wait for an individual Olympic gold medal. The 25-year-old shooter from Chandigarh won the men’s 10- meter air rifle event at the Beijing Games today, coming from behind to beat defending champion Zhu Qinan of China and Henri Hakkinen of Finland in the final round.
