Chandigarh City hospitals on Tuesday saw panic-stricken people pouring in with cough and cold symptoms. Taking no chances, doctors and attendants wore surgical masks.

The Director Health and Family Welfare, in-charge of the isolation wards at PGI, GMCH-32 and GMSH-16, and the Nodal Officer (swine flu) have been empowered to take necessary steps to ensure that all suspected cases are admitted in government hospitals, with the help of the police, if needed. Swine flu patients can also opt for home treatment in which they and their families need to follow detailed guidelines and safety measures. City Beautiful Chandigarh is reeling under the serious pressure of swine flu; latest in the move was seventeen members of a family who were being quarantined in their Sector 9 home by heath department on Monday.

According to H C Gera, Nodal Officer of Chandigarh Administration, the respective family members have been for a week in their house for the examination of swine flu symptoms.
