    Dr APJ Abdul Kalam had a great affinity with people of Punjab for their chivalry and cherished their ability to turn around the state’s economy of Punjab with the hard work poured in by them to bring about green revolution in late sixties and early seventies. Kalam had always dreamt of making Punjab a technology leader of India for he knew very well Punjabis’ ability to do hard work and their capability to bring about a change in economy by way of industrial revolution.

    He was the first President of India who, had invited students and others to interact with him any time and for this purpose he had made his e-mail public in times when such things on part of a dignitary were considered to be nothing short of a taboo. In 2006, he interacted with Vice Chancellor of Punjab Universities to push them to introduce skill development as a key feature of university education.
