How to Use App Limits and Downtime in iOS 12

Whether you’re trying to kick your smartphone addiction or  your kids aren’t overusing their iPhone, screen time can be very beneficial to achieving your goals. With App Limits, you’ll set daily time limits for app categories like social media, games, entertainment, and more. You can also add  time limits for individual apps if you find that certain apps are being overused. Downtime lets you  create screen time schedules during which only the apps and phones you allow are available.

How to Set Daily Time Limits for App Categories in Screen Time 

Note: App limits are automatically reset each day and they apply to all devices with  iCloud account sync. You will also receive a message five minutes before the timeout. However, if you break the rules, you have the option to lift the restriction. 

Step 1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device. 

Step  2. Now tap on Screen Time and select Apps. (Make sure Screen Time is enabled) 

Step 3. Next, click Add Restriction and select the category you want to restrict. 

You have more options, such as social networks and games. So choose the one  you think your child uses the most. 

Step 4. Then click  Add in the upper right corner. 

Step  5. Now set the time. Select the option to set the date. 

Click  it and set the selected time of day as needed. For example, you may have your child  play for just one hour on a normal day, but increase it to two hours on Sundays. 

As mentioned above,  time limits can also be enabled for certain programs. Use this feature if you find that some apps are wasting your valuable time.
