Leasehold property next on CHB mind

After doing away with the five-year lock-in period for the sale and transfer of flats in the case of freehold property, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) authorities have proposed to remove the draconian clause of the five-year lock-in period in the case of leasehold property as well.In the first phase, freehold property under self-financing housing schemes has been opened for transfer. At a board meeting yesterday, it was decided that there should be no bar on the transfer of such dwelling units and there should be no minimum time period before such dwelling units are allowed to be transferred.CHB Chairman Maninder Singh said in the second phase, the lock-in period for leasehold property would be dropped except in the case of EWS and LIG flats. Barring flats in Sectors 49, 50 and 51, all property of the CHB is leasehold.
