Patent Registration in India

Patent registration grants the patent holder the right to the invention. It grants the patentee rights to supervise, manufacture, practise, trade, or import the patented product or procedure. After a product has been patent-registered, no one is entitled to utilise the invention without first receiving permission from the patentee. Eligible to Apply for Patent Registration According to Section 6 of the Patents Act, 1970, an application for a patent may be made by: • a person who claims to be the true and first inventor of the invention • another person acting as assignee of the person as above • a person who is a legal representative of a deceased person who could have filed the application immediately preceding his death
