    Every city or state has its own local language and so is Chandigarh. Most of the people living here are Punjabi; therefore their common language of communication is Punjabi. Though people speak other languages too like Hindi and English but still Punjabi remains to be their local language. The culture and traditions of Chandigarh have impressed a number of people that is why it is one of the most visited destinations for many tourists.

    Chandigarh is the home for a number of government offices of Punjab, Haryana as well as the central government. But other than that, you will also come across the huge establishments of CRPF, Air Force and Army. That is why you can explore a variety of cultures and trends that make Chandigarh a wonderful city to visit. Apart from Punjabi being the local language, you will find that most of the local residents speak Hindi and also Hinglish which is a blend of both Hindi and English languages. Nowadays even Punjabi is also combined with English and this trend can be seen in SMS which people send to one another. The youth is definitely enjoying this trend to a great extent.

    Punjabi Language

    Punjabi is not only the local language of Chandigarh but more than 130 million people around the world use it in their day to day communication. This report also proves that Punjabi is 10th most popular language that people wish to use while communicating with other people. Most of the Punjabi people living in both India as well as Pakistan use this as a common language. It is quite a different language, especially when it comes to the tone that people use.
    In Pakistan more than 44% of people speak Punjabi and in India it is the 11th most common language used by people. When it comes to the Indian subcontinent, it is the 3rd most popular language to be used by many people. Even in United Kingdom and Canada, Punjabi is their third most common language that people use. Other countries like USA, UAE, Australia and Saudi Arab also use this language.

    The influence of this language on the people is rising day by day and its credit goes to Bollywood. Many movies have incorporated Punjabi tone in their dialogues and many songs have Panjabi touch in it. These Punjabi songs are highly popular and also hit the Chartbusters.
    Even modern families are adopting this language in their common life. You can see its effect on Bollywood industry as well. The folk songs of Punjab are not only appreciated in India but also in Pakistan and other countries. This trend has definitely brought a huge change in the popularity of Punjabi language. Nowadays you will find that many Bollywood songs are sung in Punjabi that adds to the charm of different songs. Apart from the Bollywood industry, even TV serials are portraying Punjabi characters that are liked by many people. The increasing interest of people has opened new opportunities for the Punjabi industry that is coming up with more Punjabi shows to entertain people. In IAS examination, many students are opting for Punjabi-English as their language thus making it popular all around the world.

    Punjabi is an officially recognized language in India’s constitution. Over 93% of people who speak Punjabi as their first language live in Pakistan and in India. It is the most widely spoken language in Pakistan. It is spoken as a first language by over 44% of Pakistanis. There were 76 million Punjabi speakers in Pakistan in year 2008 and 33 million in 2011. It is the official language of the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana.

    Punjabi is spoken in mainly three areas of the world; in East Punjab (India) where it is a state language, in West Punjab (Pakistan) where it is most widely spoken, particularly Britain, North America, East Africa and Australia
