Chandigarh City – Sports
With a warm sunny climate, sparking green gardens, an abundance of wide open spaces and natural taste for the great outdoors, it’s hardly surprising that chandigarh is a city of sports lovers. And the city is well equipped to cater to their needs, both indoors and outdoors – swimming, athletics, tennis, sailing, gyms, football, cricket and golf – that’s just for starters.
Athletic
A Athletic hall is situated in Sector-23 Yoga Health Centre with all modern facilities.
Badminton
A Badminton Hall is situated in Sector-42 Sports Complex.It has three beautifully constructed courts and spectator seating. Also part of the Stadium Complex is the Sports hostel which provides accommodation for 200.
Basketball
Two cemented basketball courts are in Sector-7 Sports Complex and two basketball hard courts with floodlights are in Sector-46 Sports Complex.
Volleyball
Two volleyball court are in Sector-7 Sports Complex and Sector-46 Sports Complex.
Boxing
A Boxing hall is situated in Sector-23 Yoga Health Centre with all modern facilities.
Cricket

Football
The football stadium is located in the heart of city Sector-17 near Bus Stand and coaches are available to train the players .
Table Tennis
There is a newly constructed hall in Sector-23 for table tennis along with coach to train the players.The facilities are also available in Chandigarh club and Lake club.
Gymnasium
A multi-gym with imported equipment is set up in the Gymnasium Hall is located in Sector-7 sports complex.
Hockey
There is a prominent hockey stadium with grass pitch in Sector-18, near the Tagore Theatre.How ever, the hockey stadium with international standard astroturf in Sector-42 is the venue for international hockey matches, and for national camps in hockey.
Skating
The skating ring in Sector-10 has been the venue of several national competitions. It is built with international dimensions and have Kota stone flooring in line with the latest specifications. Coaches offer instruction to skaters. The city takes pride in having produced a number of national level champions. .
Riding
The Police Riding Club is located in Sector-26. It utilises eight horses of the Chandigarh Police and the service of the Police riding instructors to teach the basics of riding. Membership in the club is for a limited duration; twice a year new members are invited.
Shooting
A standard rifles shooting has been created in Sector-25 and a coach is provided.
Wrestling
The wrestling hall is located in the Sector-30 Community Centre with all modern facilities along with a gym.
Squash
Two squash courts are in Sector-7 Sports Complex.
Swimming
The city has swimming pools at following places:

Golf
The Chandigarh Golf Course is one of the oldest courses in the region. Its 18 holes were laid out in 1962 on an area of 132 acres just south of Sukhna Lake and adjacent to the residence of the Punjab Governor in Sector 6. Golf Club membership is confined to the city’s elite. Although the initial outlay required from a new member is around Rs 70,000, the list of those waiting to become members is long. Aside from the golf course, the members enjoy an excellent swimming pool, games rooms for bridge and mahjong, and a well appointed Club house.
Lawn Tennis
The Lawn Tennis Court in Sector-10 is run and managed by the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association(CLTA). It has four grass courts, four clay courts and four synthetic courts as well as a practise wall. The Tennis Stadium, which can seat 10,000 spectators, has been the venue for many national and international matches including the Davis Cup. Four professional coaches are employed by the CLTA; at present they have some 200 students of varying levels of proficiency. The lawn tennis court are also at chandigarh club, Lake club .
Water Sports
The Lake Club near Sukhana Lake offers facilities for a wide range of water-sports including swimming, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing and water skiing. The Club also offers table tennis, lawn tennis and a multi-gym.
