Second round of counselling for Class XI from July 16
CHANDIGARH: Did not get the desired school and stream in the first allotment list issued by the UT education department on Tuesday? There is no need to worry, as the UT education department officials have stated bright chances of admission to the desired school or stream in the second round of counselling which would begin from July 16 onwards. Last year as well, 10 to 15% seats were lying vacant in different streams in Class XI after the first round of counselling, and this year too, vacant seats are expected. After the first round itself, there were 1,744 vacant seats in the Humanities and Science streams.
Out of the total 37 schools, the Science stream is offered in 18 schools, and the numbers of seats in this stream at present are around 3,135, out of which 3,001 have been allotted to eligible students. The Commerce stream is also offered in 18 schools, and there are 1,540 seats in all government schools, out of which all have been allotted. In commerce, 1,570 seats have been allotted in the first counselling. The maximum numbers of seats (6,520) are available in the Humanities stream, out of which 5,134 have been allotted.
As per the UT education department officials, even more seats in every stream would go vacant by the time of second counselling. “The students not satisfied with the school or stream allotted to them do not deposit the fees, and therefore the seats remain vacant,” said officials. The school-wise, stream-wise list of vacant seats is expected to be put up on the department’s website within a week, following which the students can apply again.
