SOME OTHER FACTS:-
1)Only city to be the Capital of two states.
2)First city to be divided into Sectors with proper planning.
3)No Sector 13 as 13 is considered unlucky by French and the Chief Architect was a Frenchman.
4)No building in the city is above 4 floors(yeah, no HIGH RISES).One reason ,might be the presence of airstrip nearby.Even the residential complexes can have four floors only, same with offices and other commercial complexes.
5)Called “THE CITY BEAUTIFUL” for its superb greenery and exemplary planning.
6)Has notable institutions like PEC,PU,PGIMER etc.
7)Has a Cricket Stadium(Sector -16), International Hockey Stadium(Sec-42) and National Level Tennis Academy(CLTA-9) and facilities for all other sports.The mysterious number 13 in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, called the City Beautiful, planned by the great architect Le Cor busier is not having Sector 13 and the sectors are built in such a way that the sum total of opposite sectors is divisible by 13.
The master plan of the city was prepared by Le Corbusier, transformed from an earlier plan by the American planner Albert Mayor. Most of the government buildings and housing in the city, however, is designed by the Chandigarh Capital Project Team headed by Pierre Jeanneret, Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry.
