Petrified Wood is one of the biggest enigmas in New World’s early life and will likely remain that way for some time. Players who are attempting to make items like the Breach Hunter’s Fire Staff or the Adept Cryomancer’s Gauntlet, both magical weapons, will need the wood. However, many players are stumped as to how actually acquire the Petrified Wood that these recipes call for.

For some reason, Petrified Wood seems to be nearly impossible to find, which doesn’t make much sense given how common the resource is supposed to be. Here’s how to find Petrified Wood in New World.

Getting Petrified Wood in New World
Petrified Wood is obtained by harvesting both Young Trees and Mature Trees in New World. At least, that’s what the game claims. Unfortunately, a number of players have said that after chopping down countless Young and Mature trees, they’ve not had a single drop of the stuff.

Players on Reddit have suggested that you can get Petrified Wood from chopping down Dead Trees. These are the ones lying on the floor, though from our experience, this isn’t a surefire way to get it either.

Of course, by cutting down these trees, you’ll largely receive Green Wood along with some forms of resin or sap. Although, there’s also a small chance for you to add Petrified Wood to your inventory by chopping down these specific trees.

The chance is low and many players might not even realize they’ve acquired the wood. After all, the Logging trade skill can be a bit mindless at times.

In the meantime, the best way to improve your chances of finding Petrified Wood is to increase your character’s Logging skill level and find gear that increases your Logging Luck. The New World community is still working out the details about Luck and other stats’ relation to item drop rates, but it appears that the base drop rate for rare materials is well under 1% if you don’t have any gear that boosts your Luck stat. The drop rate is still super low even with the right equipment though, so it could take a long time before you find the resources you need.
