A Mohali police constable, Sham Lal — who works with the police control room — was thrashed by four persons in a drunken state, when he was on his way home after finishing duty on Monday night at around 11pm near Derabassi on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway.When Lal was on the highway near his home in Derabassi, a car chased him down, in which two drunk persons were sitting. They stopped Lal and said: ‘Tainu car nahi chalaani aundi’ (You don’t how to drive a car). Then, Lal identified himself as a cop with the Punjab Police, after which the two accused left the spot. But he hardly drove half a mile ahead, when they — Pardeep and Naresh — arrived in their car, along with other two unknown persons and stopped him.
