UT traffic police website high on hit list

Over 1.1 million hits last year, most from the US; new site has daily accident updates, online challan payment facility.

WITH its new look and updated version, the Chandigarh Traffic Police claim that their website has become one of the best in the world as far as information on road safety is concerned.

Since its launch last year, the website has recorded over 1.1 million hits. According to senior officials, they are recording around 200-250 hits everyday. The statistics revealed that the maximum number of hits were from the USA, followed by India and Australia.

The site (chandigarhtrafficpolice.org) has animations, interactive features and loads of information on road safety. There is also a daily accident update of the city, which lists details of fatal accidents, how and where they occurred and a brief about the victims and the accused as well.

There is also a list of non-fatal accidents, cases in which both the parties compromised. ‘‘This would help us to assess the actual number of accidents that take place on city roads,’’ said a senior police official.

As far as the recently introduced online challan payment is concerned, traffic officials disclosed they are receiving good response in the category of sticker and postal challans. They added that the trend of online payment of challans is picking up in case of other categories of challans too.
