The Chandigarh Administration took a soft decision against the use of plastic bags by charging Rs 500 instead of Rs 5000. Yesterday the 77 dealers were found to use plastic bags.

Before a week the National Green Tribunal had commanded to charge fine of Rs 5000 for disturbing the environment by using plastic bags, plates etc.

The operation of checking had begun from south division of the city to east one while the central area does not considered.

The SDM Tapsaya Raghav is head of operation along with the five teams from east division. Firstly they inspect the Grain Market Sector-26 at 11 am and it processed till 3 pm, including its nearby areas in Manimajra and Sector-20. They get plastic bags from various shops such as wholesalers, shopkeepers etc. The number of challans issued was 24.

Then they processed out to South division, where first they visited to Sector-41, Burail village, Sector-43 Apni Mandi and Butrela village. The number of Challans issued was 49.

All the team members and SDM appealed to all traders not to use the plastic bags for making the environment-friendly. Use the things that are safe for the environment. Traders will move to Punjab and Haryana High Court against this order.
